Mercedes has unveiled its next-gen CLE Coupe designed to succeed the company’s C and E lineups. Only the closed car has been shown so far, with the convertible set to follow later. The sales won’t begin until January 2024.
On the exterior side of things, the CLE is about as exciting as you would expect from Mercedes these days, although the front end has a tinge of visual aggression added to it and the headlights boast original patterns.
The interior has largely been borrowed from the C-Class. This includes displays sized 12.3 and 11.9 inches across, the front panel with air vents and the transmission tunnel. Only the seats look notably different.
When it goes on sale in Europe, the CLE will be available with two 2.0-liter mild-hybrid engines – one petrol, the other one diesel. It is already official that the former will produce 204 PS (201 hp / 150 kW) and 320 Nm (236 lb-ft) of torque, while the latter will output 200 PS (197 hp / 147 kW) and 440 Nm (325 lb-ft). In the United States, there will be a six-cylinder top spec rated at 381 PS (376 hp / 280 kW).
By default, all CLE models will come equipped with a wide range of electronic assist features that will actively interfere to prevent accidents.
