Mercedes has completely unveiled the sixth generation of the E-Class. Only the sedan has debuted so far, with an estate/wagon version set to join it later.
The car is visibly larger and benefits from rear-wheel steering, as well as more powerful engines. The interior rocks a giant display similar to those of the EQE and EQS models.
The 4WS functionality has been transferred directly from the S-Class. Mercedes has also made some modifications to the stock multi-link per-wheel suspension at the rear end. Adaptive shocks were used to increase comfort.
The base trim level still ships with a 14.4-inch multimedia display, but paying extra gets you a larger Superscreen along with an extra display for the front passenger. A selfie camera is also listed under options, enabling photos and video calls on the go.
Every engine in the lineup has been electrified with multiple mild and plug-in hybrid options to choose from. The 2.0-liter four-cylinder MHEV comes in two flavors: petrol with 204 PS (201 hp / 150 kW) and 320 Nm (236 lb-ft) and diesel with 197 PS (194 hp / 145 kW) and 440 Nm (325 lb-ft).
The PHEV lineup maxes out at 380 PS (375 hp / 279 kW) and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque. This flagship spec needs 5.3 seconds for its 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint. The all-electric range varies from 95 to 115 km (from 59 to 71.5 miles) depending on your chosen version.
