A few days ago, Mercedes revealed a long-wheelbase E-Class V214 for China, and the Beijing-Benz factory has now officially begun the production. The sales are expected to start before the end of 2023.
While BMW and Audi tend to style their stretched in the same vein as their standard cars, the new E-Class is markedly different with new rear doors and added rear side windowlets.
The cockpit looks the same as in the normal E-Class (see video), but the 133 mm (5.2 inches) of extra wheelbase give the second row occupants more legroom. The seats sport larger headrests, and the HVAC console is new, too.
Only two powertrains will be available in China for the V214. Both are based on a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine, but while the more affordable one delivers 204 PS (201 hp / 150 kW), the more powerful one makes 258 PS (254 hp / 190 kW).
