Unique Boschert B300 heads to auction, poised to sell for €0.3M

A one-off Boschert B300 coupe designed by tuning specialist Hartmut Boschert in the late 1980s with the Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing for reference will cross the auction block in late November expected to sell for €250,000–300,000.

The donor vehicle is a C124 E-Class Coupe, but you will be forgiven for no longer recognizing it. The c-pillars have been moved 250 mm (9.8 inches) to the front, the roof and the side sills reinforced, and new gull-wing doors installed to provide access to both seat rows. These custom doors are 1,660 mm (nearly 65 inches) long and inspired by the elusive 300SL Gullwing.

The front end and the front seats have been borrowed from the R129 SL-Class. The 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine under the hood received a pair of turbochargers and went from 190 to 283 PS (from 187 to 279 hp; from 140 to 208 kW, respectively).

34 years ago, Boschert exhibited his creation at the IAA Frankfurt, pricing it at a lofty 186,000 DM. The prohibitive price was the reason for its ultimate failure: out of the 300 units initially planned for production, Boschert was able to secure pre-orders for 10 and never started work on them. The B300 shown here forever remained a one-off.

The listing is scant on details regarding the past of the car. The current owner bought it in 2005 and is selling it along with some accessories, as well as old magazines, video tapes and newspaper cutouts featuring the exotic ride.
