Mercedes has conducted a crash test with a pair of its electric cars in Sindelfingen, Germany, making an EQA collide with an EQS SUV in an impressive demo of the company’s high build quality standards.
The video shows the preparations before the test, the impact and the aftermath. The company emphasizes that its goal was to demonstrate how safe battery cars really are. The test crew relied on the latest filming technologies to capture every moment of the crash and its actual effect on the cars.
Another point of pride for Mercedes is that the test adhered to even stricter standards than those adopted by EuroNCAP. The transport safety agency prescribes using a cart with a deformable barrier on it for the test; an actual EV is much heavier than that.
Despite the sheer force of the impact, none of the mannequins were subject to major overloads. The structural parts housing battery cells were also all intact. The electronics on board switched off automatically upon detecting the collision.
