Mercedes-Benz EQA & EQB get updates heading into 2024

Mercedes-Benz has put some polish on the cheapest cars in its EQ lineup – the EQA and EQB. Pre-ordering will become available this fall, but the dealerships in Europe will only get the first shipments in early 2024.

The black grille slab at the front looks different thanks to a tri-point star ornament. The daytime running lights are linked with a LED strip, and the front bumper accentuates the width of both models. The taillights sport updated light signatures, and customers can choose from four new wheel options sized from 18 to 20 inches large, as well as two new body colors.

The 10.25-inch infotainment display is now a part of the standard trim. Powered by the latest MBUX software, it offers improved voice recognition and lends its computing power to new, better driving assists. Range monitoring lets the cars be aware of their remaining charge and optimize spending.

The steering wheel now has capacitive controls on it, while the optional Burmester audio system comes with a new feature called Sound Experiences. Previously only available for the EQS flagship, it fills the interior with special synthesized sounds to create a pleasant atmosphere.

From the technical standpoint, the EQB has changed more than the EQA. It is no longer shipping in the base version known as 250, instead coming in a package called 250+. This new version improves the battery capacity from 66.5 to 70.5 kilowatt-hours, significantly extending the WLTP-rated driving range. Depending on your other choices, the range now varies from 462 to 536 kilometers (from 287 to 333 miles).

The new EQA 250+ gets the same bigger battery and covers 560 km (348 miles) per charge, an upgrade over the 540 km (335 mi) from before.

Last but not least, a feature called Plug & Charge facilitates charging at busy stations. As soon as a cable is connected, the car will automatically start charging without asking for the driver’s confirmation like before.

The full reveal of both EVs will take place at the IAA Munich show in September.
