Mercedes-Benz believes its EQXX Concept is the most power-efficient electric car ever, but it will never reach production in this form. Speaking in an interview with Autocar, company CTO Markus Schaefer said some of the EQXX tech would find use in a new production car coming in a few years’ time.
Designing the prototype took a year and a half, and the company plans to capitalize on that by repurposing the tech, the software and the production approaches for mass-market use. There is no specific list of these, but aerodynamics and low-consumption powertrains seem to be the key virtues of the EQXX, so they make prime candidates.
Aside from that, the concept car previewed a huge 47.5-inch display that the company is now using with its MBUX infotainment system.
According to MB Design Director Gordon Wagener, the concept is sized smaller than the EQE. As such, the next production car might just be an all-electric alternative to the latest C-Class. No official statement has been made yet.
