Mercedes-Benz promises ‘phenomenal performance’ for the EQG

Not even the Mercedes-Benz G-Class can avoid full electrification, and with the EQG Concept being already two years old, it was high time we heard from the company regarding its specifications.

Speaking in an interview with Motor Trend, Mercedes-Benz Group Chairman of the Board of Directors said the off-roader would offer ‘phenomenal performance’ both on and off the road, and would be ‘highly competent’ and ‘easy to handle.’

It is official now that, like its concept version, the electric G-Class will be produced with four independent electric motors switched by a dual-range gearbox. In an earlier video, the company showed the EQG performing a tank turn, i.e. rotating 360 degrees without moving from the spot.

Mercedes has an innovative platform called EVA2 that it is already uses for a number of EVs, but everything points to the electric G-Class coming based on a different architecture. Motor Trend reports it will be a new proprietary design powered by a battery featuring a silicon anode in the top spec. The lower specs will make do with cheaper LiFePo4 battery packs.
