Mercedes-Benz EQS fails hard at the moose test compared to Korean rivals

Spanish magazine km77.com continues testing luxury cars with the Mercedes electric flagship, the EQS, and the results disappoint.

During its very best attempt, the driver of the Mercedes-Benz EQS was able to pass the double lane-change at 72 km/h, or 44.7 miles per hour. To put things into perspective, the Ioniq 5 was able to do it at 80 km/h (49.7 mph) and the Kia EV6 at 78 km/h (48.5 mph).

During the first trial at the standard 77 km/h (47.8 mph), the EQS only hit one cone, so the test crew was optimistic about its potential. In all subsequent runs, however, it kept hitting more cones until doing a solitary clean run at 72 km/h.

The researchers say the curb weight of the car – 2,670 kg, or 5,886 lbs – could play a major role in the outcome. The vehicle tested had rear wheel steering support, though, which did not improve the results much. The test crew also found very little difference between moose test performance in Sport and Comfort drive modes.

Back in its time, the gas-powered Mercedes-Benz S-Class passed the test at 74 km/h (46 mph). The car weighs 2,060 kg (4,542 lbs).
