According to Autocar, the German automaker will be introducing two new electric SUVs this year, including the luxurious EQS set for Beijing Auto Show premiere in April.
The car will allegedly share design cues with the liftback by the same name, but not without modifications. For one, it is claimed to have a class-leading drag ratio. The interior is also going to ‘set a new benchmark’ for the marque as a whole. Autocar says different versions will be available for up to seven passengers.
In its default guise, the e-SUV will allegedly use dual motors together rated at 523 PS (516 hp / 385 kW). Like the liftback, it will use a 108-kWh battery. AMG and Maybach variants should arrive later with up to 658 PS (650 hp / 478 kW) on offer, like the EQS AMG 53. The flagship spec will reportedly be named EQS 600.
Another SUV, the EQE, should follow the EQS in six months and will also originally debut in China (Guangzhou Auto Show in November). It is expected to be 300 mm (around 12”) shorter than the flagship and ship in RWD and AWD variants. In its entry level form, the EQE 350, it will pack a single motor capable of 300 PS (296 hp / 221 kW) and 530 Nm (391 lb-ft) of torque.
Production is set to take place in Alabama, USA, where the GLE and GLS are currently made.
