Mercedes-Benz EQS front passengers can watch movies without distracting drivers

As evidenced by many test vehicle sightings and spy shots, Mercedes has been working on its electric SUV named the EQS a lot lately. This is the Stuttgart automaker’s third production car to take advantage of an EV-specific platform, and it comes with a 12.3-inch front passenger display that you can watch in transit.

According to Mercedes, the feature will be exclusive to the top trim of the EQS, which gets the Hyperscreen display spanning nearly the entire width of the dashboard. The rightmost part of it will function as a multimedia display for the occupant of the front right seat, even when the car is moving.

The manufacturer implements two safety measures to prevent the driver from getting distracted. First, passengers will have to use headphones. Second, the screen will be automatically dimmed every time the car detects the driver peeking at it.

Similar tech is already used by other brands on the market. Jeep offers something like this in its Grand Cherokee and Wagoneer models.
