Mercedes reveals the EQS once more, but as an SUV this time around

Mercedes has teased us with the crossover-shaped EQS for a long time now, but never brought it to the Auto China show due to the latter being canceled over Covid-19 concerns. The car has now finally debuted online.

The new EQS SUV is a close relative of the electric liftback by the same name. Both have the same wheelbase length of 3.21 meters (125.4 inches), but the soft-roader is slightly less long while being marginally broader and taller. Depending on whether you fold down the rear seats, the trunk volume varies from 565 to 2,100 liters (19.95 – 74.15 cubic feet, respectively).

The interior is nothing new, as we have already seen it on official previews. The dominant feature here is a giant Hyperscreen display spanning the entire front fascia in the top trim level. Other notable options include panoramic glass roof, HUD, and a HVAC system for four or five zones (seven-seater only).

Powering the entry-level EQS SUV is a single electric motor rated at 360 PS (355 hp / 265 kW) and 568 Nm (419 lb-ft) of torque. A single charge yields up to 660 km (410 miles) of driving range.

Next up in the list is an AWD version with two motors. The power stays the same at 360 PS, but the torque rises to an impressive 800 Nm (590 lb-ft). The range is reduced to 613 km (381 miles).

Finally, the top specification promises 523 PS (516 hp / 385 kW) from its electric system. All acceleration-related numbers remain to be revealed.
