Mercedes-Maybach EQS spotted testing

It has been a few months since car spotters nabbed a Mercedes-Maybach EQS prototype on the roads, and here it comes again – this time with a trailer in tow, no less.

Mercedes announced the EQS at the last year’s IAA Munich show, using an early Maybach EQS SUV Concept (see video). The pre-production car in our gallery here looks just like that concept. Compared to the regular Mercedes-Benz EQS, the Maybach is going to have distinct bumpers, wheels and a luxurious cabin with a top-notch trim and plenty of latest tech on board. The spy shots provide the first good look at the front bumper from up close, by the way.

It is unclear what drivetrain it will be powered by, but the dual-motor system like the one used by the EQS 580 4Matic seems likely. If so, the electric S-Class should get at least 544 PS (537 hp / 400 kW) and 858 Nm (633 lb-ft) of torque, as well as up to 600 km (373 miles) of WLTP-rated range.

The premiere is expected in late 2022 or early 2023.
