Mercedes-Benz reveals EQS facelift ahead of Beijing premiere

The Stuttgart company’s electric flagship will be exhibited at the Auto China show at the end of the month, but you don’t have to wait to learn about the main specs.

The slab replacing the radiator grille has traded its usual spotted pattern for three horizontal chrome stripes slashed by one vertical. The logo migrated from the grille to the hood, where it usually sits on gas-powered Mercedes cars. The company also announced fresh trim options and even more comfort for the rear seat occupants.

The battery size went up to 118 kWh, resulting in better range for the entire EQS lineup. The EQS 450 version in particular can now cover 799–822 km (496–510 miles) on a charge, more than 10% better than before.

Aside from the above, Mercedes promises us more efficient regenerative braking and a new electronic assist – Automatic Lane Change (ALC). The cars will be able to automatically overtake vehicles ahead by switching from their lane and back as soon as possible. The feature works exclusively on roads where there are more than two lanes in each direction, and only when going between 80 and 140 km/h (50–87 mph). It also relies on clearly visible road markings and will not work without them.

Pre-order books will open in late April just as the refreshed EQS debuts in China.
