We have already seen the new Mercedes-Benz G-Class 4x4² on spy photos, but it wore much more camouflage back then.
The cladding is now limited to the radiator grille and the tubular spare tire holder in the back. Elsewhere, the test vehicle has flared fenders, large off-road tires, underbody protection, a large expedition rack on the roof with an access ladder in the back, and an additional light bar above the windshield.
One of the main advantages of this G-Class version is the use of portal axles, which improve its ground clearance and wading depth. Mercedes still hasn’t revealed any specifics, but the old generation had 450 mm (17.6 inches) under its belt and could wade water a whole meter (3.3 feet) high.
It is already known that the new G-Wagen Squared uses a turbocharged eight-cylinder engine, but its output remains undisclosed.
