Rumor: Mercedes working on a compact-sized G-Class EV

The upcoming Mercedes-Benz EQG (see the gallery below) is shaping up to become a full-fledged replacement for the fuel-powered G-Class lineup in a few years. What we did not know is that the company was apparently also working on a downsized alternative to it.

The reports originate from Handelsblatt citing anonymous sources. According to these, the baby G-Class will go on sale in 2025 with a selection of partially and fully electric powertrains.

The still-unnamed prototype is allegedly being designed on a dedicated compact car platform lending itself well to both ICE and electric drivetrains. The latter version is expected to have around 500 km (310 miles) of range and support fast charging.
