Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the Project Mondo G, its collaboration with Moncler, a fashion brand known for its puffer jackets. Both companies said the main idea was to showcase their visual design achievements using a G-Class as the starting point. Whether the show car could actually move around was never mentioned.
The team behind the project put enormous tires resembling low-pressure tubes on the SUV and made sure that the tread looked like a piece of a giant puffer. The same material made its way onto the roof of the off-roader along with a giant zipper lock.
According to Mercedes, the car is 4.6 x 2.8 x 3.4 meters large (15.1 x 9.2 x 11.15 feet) and weighs 2.5 metric tons (around 5,500 pounds).
The creative idea was to combine a quilted clothing pattern with the bulky outlines of a car for a utilitarian, practical appearance. To that end, patina was applied to the bodywork in some areas and the zipper was put on the top.
