Unique Brabus G700 4×4² sells for $1/4M

Then Mercedes-Benz launched its G500 4×4² off-roader based on the standard G500 model, many wondered why the choice did not fall on the more powerful AMG G63. Brabus corrected this shortcoming, and now, a six-year-old tuned SUV with the B badge sold for $247,500.

The German tuner made several Brabus G700 4×4² units, but this one was the only one to have been assembled in the USA instead of Europe. It received a complete carbon fiber package including new bumpers, flared fenders and underbody protection. 18-inch wheels occupied the arches along with 37-inch tires, the running boards became automatic, and headlights were tinted.

Interior improvements are less extensive with new steering wheel, aluminum pedal pads, scuff plates and mats being the highlights. Things do liven up under the hood, however, where an AMG G63 powertrain toils with serious performance upgrades. The output amounts to 700 PS (690 hp / 515 kW) and 960 Nm (708 lb-ft) of torque.

If you feel that a quarter of a million U.S. dollars is a tall order for a G-Class with around 6,000 miles (10,000 km) under its belt, consider that the manufacturer’s original Mercedes G500 4×4² cost about the same when it debuted while packing about half as much power.
