Mercedes-AMG G63 4x4² shows up for an unofficial photoshoot

After a long time testing on public roads, the much-anticipated Mercedes-AMG G63 4x4² finally shows its body on some high-resolution photos. The full premiere has yet to happen, but we now know some of its specifications as well.

The 4x4² version of the G-Class rides much higher than stock thanks to an upgraded suspension and portal beam axles. The distance from the front bumper to the road amounts to 351 mm (13.7 inches), a serious improvement over the 238 mm (9.3 inches) of the standard SUV. The wading depth also benefits from this: you can now traverse water up to 910 mm (35.5 inches) tall instead of 700 mm (27.3 inches). Departure and approach angles are also better in this special edition.

The wheels come in size 22 with all-terrain tires. There is a revised spare wheel mount at the rear, some additional lighting and assorted carbon fiber inserts all around.

Power for the new 4x4² comes from a 4.0-liter V8 boosted to 585 PS (577 hp / 430 kW) and 850 Nm (627 lb-ft) of torque, which works in tandem with a nine-speed automatic transmission.

All prices remain to be announced.
