Caracat camping trailer lets you live free and sail free, just like that

Only around a quarter of the Earth surface can be considered passable by wheeled land transports. If you are intro traveling, chances are land will limit your freedom more than water ever will. Schneider Caravaning has an intriguing solution that can be used to traverse both elements. Meet the Caracat 860, the amphibious motorhome.

It is a trailer that you can tow by a torquey SUV or even crossover, not necessarily the Mercedes G-Class depicted here. The thing can be between 6.6 and 8.6 meters (21.7 – 28.2 feet) long, depending on your needs. When launched into water, it uses a small combustion engine or electric motor (you choose) rated up to 15 horsepower (but once again, the company will consider installing more powerful motors on custom-order basis).

A traction battery resides on board that gets its energy from solar panels producing up to 200W on sunny days. The power is then stored and used to power the various appliances on board.

The Caracat 860 starts from €130,000 in Europe. The gallery below provides a good overview of its basic features.
