Off-Road Battle: New vs. Old Mercedes G-Class

The latest Mercedes-Benz G 63 AMG is a few years old and manages to combine modern technology and comfort with superb off-road performance, contrary to what many of us expected prior to the launch. In their latest video, the Carwow team finds out how the new G-Wagon compares against its predecessor in their shared natural habitat.

The second-gen G 63 AMG utilizes a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 to drive all four wheels with the help of a nine-speed automatic transmission. It makes 585 PS (577 hp / 430 kW) and 850 Nm (627 lb-ft) of torque.

The preceding generation has more displacement in its 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8, but gets slightly less power and torque at 544 PS (536 hp / 400 kW) and 760 Nm (561 lb-ft). The gearbox is seven-speed.

Make sure to watch this highly entertaining and occasionally ruthless showdown!
