Mercedes-Benz GLC spawns a 680-PS flagship version

У Mercedes-Benz has shared the specifications of two upcoming GLC variants – the 43 AMG and 63 AMG. Both are hybrids based on the company’s own 2.0-liter turbo four-pot.

The Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 has an electric supercharger and a starter-generator working in tandem with the main engine for 421 PS (414 hp / 309 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque. A nine-speed wet-clutch A/T carries the torque to all four wheels. The SUV needs 4.8 seconds for its sprint from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) and hits its electronic speed limit at 250 km/h (155 mph).

The 63 S E Performance trades the electric starter for a full-fledged motor, upgrading the output to 680 PS (671 hp / 500 kW) and 1,020 Nm (752 lb-ft). It sprints in 3.5 seconds and can reach 275 km/h (170 mph). The main downside is the range in all-electric mode, which amounts to just 12 kilometers (7.5 miles).

On the outside, both SUVs sport aerodynamic bodywork, AMG exhaust tips and radiator grille. A peek inside reveals sport seats and a different steering wheel. The infotainment system is mostly the same, but the graphics has been revised.
