We knew the Dartz Prombron was a crazy idea for an armored vehicle, but the Latvian company took things one step further by offering its Mercedes-Maybach GLS-based ride bundled with either an armored dinner jacket or a bulletproof sweatshirt.
The clothing uses the same GBOL protection method as the car itself. It consists of three layers of armor sandwiched on top of one another, compromising between protection and lightness. The manufacturer claims the Prombron is not heavier than the stock Mercedes-Maybach GLS by any significant margin.
To prove the quality of the wear, Dartz has posted photos from shooting tests with bullets lodged firmly in the fabric without tearing it. The protection is intended to be viable against calibers up to 9x19 mm. An alligator skin insert helps conceal the armor plating.
Interested customers who don’t have a Prombron to drive may still order the clothes separately. Prices have not been mentioned, but they are likely to impress.
Along with the announcement, Dartz confirmed that it has renamed the car from Prombron Black Alligator MMXX – a reference to Sikorsky Aircraft – to Prombron Iron Diamond MMXXII. Aside from the name, nothing has changed about the car itself.
Buyers can still choose between the stock Mercedes-Maybach GLS engine rated at 558 PS (550 hp / 410 kW) or a boosted version thereof. There are several boost options adding up to 300 PS (296 hp / 221 kW) to the OEM rating. The interior makes use of alligator, ray and shark skin trim, and houses a vintage Metaxas & Sins tape recorder, among other things.
