Mercedes-Maybach wannabe van costs $0.3M for novelty value alone

Wiresonly lists a couple of sale ads for what is called ‘Mercedes-Benz Luxury Metris’. Apparently, someone took a regular Metris van and made it pretend it was a Maybach. The idea might sound cool, but then there is the price.

More specifically, you could buy an entry-level GLS 600 SUV for U.S. $165,000 or so. Even ticking off all the boxes barely raises the price to $210,000. You get eight cylinders and OEM warranty for your money. If you turn your attention towards saloons instead of crossovers, there is the S680 model starting at $230,000 and packing a mighty twin-turbo V12.

The Luxury Metris, on the other hand, costs $300,000. What do you get for the price? Well, the drivetrain stays stock, meaning four cylinders and 211 PS (208 hp / 155 kW) of thrust. There is a mildly interesting body kit, new wheels and other aesthetic tweaks, but not much.

The main selling point is found in the interior, which actually looks deluxe with its soft leather trim on every surface, a massive center console with cupholders, a TV set, a fridge and other creature comforts. Perhaps most importantly, it has more interior space than any Maybach on the market.

Is it worth paying three hundred grand for, though? That is up to you.
