Not long ago, we reported about a very special Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W140) built by RENNTech with a gargantuan 7.6-liter V12 under the hood. New details have emerged since then, and we thought they were worth sharing with our readers.
The so-called RENNTech S76R is a luxury saloon powered by a naturally aspirated six-liter V12 that the tuner bored and stroked out to 7.6 liters of useful displacement. Replacing a number of components with high-performance ones resulted in a huge 50% power increase – from barely over 400 to 615 PS (607 hp, or 452 kW). This necessitated replacing the air intake system, the whole exhaust system, and installing titanium connecting rods, among other things.
Weight was also given some consideration: according to the tuner, the brakes, the suspension and the exhaust system were all rebuilt to weigh as little as possible. Using titanium for the connecting rods shaved 4.3 kilos (~10 pounds) off the engine weight, for example. Still, keeping the luxury status of the sedan in mind, the team didn’t go too savage on the car and didn’t even strip the interior much.
Precise acceleration times remain yet to be measured, as the project is still incomplete, but RENNTech says the S-Class will reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in barely more than five seconds and hit its speed limit at 250 km/h (155 mph).
