Mercedes-Benz shrinks S-Class production

With the demand for the S-Class lineup taking a sharp plunge, Mercedes has no other choice but to rein in its sales expectations for the rest of the year.

Put in numbers, the company sold around 16,900 S-Class sedans in the first quarter of 2024 – 37% fewer than in the same period the year before. This statistic even includes all AMG and Maybach spinoffs and special editions, so the situation looks rather bleak, indeed.

The fall continued in the second quarter, too. As a result, Mercedes will be switching its Factory 56 in Sindelfingen, Germany from two work shifts to just one. It’s where the company assembles its current S-Class and (electric) EQS lineups.
