Everrati makes the iconic Pagoda run on battery power

Everrati, a British electromod specialist, has unveiled its latest creation. The project car this time around is a W113 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class, which was widely known as ‘Pagoda’ back in its glory days due to a peculiar shape of its roof.

The coupe was restored from the ground up and outfitted with an electric motor rated roughly the same as the original petrol engine. Because of the comprehensive restoration and modification, the company asks no less than £295,000 ($370,000 USD) for such projects.

More specifically, all the initial restoration and preparation is handled by another firm, Hilton & Moss, which has more than four decades of experience in restoring Mercedes cars. All vehicles are torn down to the last screw and reassembled using OEM parts wherever applicable.

While the original engine produced 170 PS (168 hp / 125 kW), the new electric motor churns out slightly more at 182 PS (179 hp / 134 kW). The torque is drastically better at 550 Nm (406 lb-ft) instead of the original 244 Nm (180 lb-ft), enabling a sprint from zero to 97 km/h (60 mph) in 7 seconds flat, down 1.8 seconds from the OEM time.

The traction battery stores up to 57 kWh of energy and is distributed throughout the car body in such a manner that the per-axle load remains unchanged. A full charge yields more than 250 kilometers (155 miles) of range. Additional dashboard gauges provide the necessary powertrain indicators and look indistinguishable from the original gauges.

Everrati emphasizes that the tuning is completely reversible, meaning you could strip the car down to its original state and put the combustion engine back if you wanted it for some reason.
