Mercedes-Benz to produce its first Mythos-badged car in 2025

Mercedes-Benz announced a sub-brand named Mythos last year, but it’s only now that we are learning the first details. According to CarBuzz quoting Mercedes executives at a recent shareholders’ meeting, the first Mythos car will debut in 2025, likely based on the SL-Class (see below).

The Mythos badge is expected to sit just below the top-end Maybach brand. It will be considered more premium than regular Mercedes-Benz cars and released in small batches for connoisseurs and collectors alike. While this was not stated outright, Mercedes Design Director Gordon Wagener transparently hinted at it. It also looks like the company wants to experiment with new and unusual body designs for this lineup.

Judging by the only teaser image available so far (here in the header), the first Mercedes-Benz Mythos will be based on an SL Roadster. It will apparently trade its rear seat row for a pair of aerodynamic humps. In this sense, it might be positioned as a modern take on the classic 300 SLR 722 – one of the company’s most iconic sports cars of all time. Back in 1955, Stirling Moss piloted one such cabriolet to victory at the Mille Miglia race.

Aside from a retro-inspired body, the Mythos car might get a stronger powertrain than the stock SL-Class. There has been no confirmation of these rumors, though.
