Brabus creates a special Mercedes-AMG SL 63 series in memory of its founder

Brabus has unveiled another custom project based on the Mercedes-AMG SL 63 – a special edition honoring the memory of Bodo Buschmann, the founder of the tuning company who passed away five years ago. Only 25 units will be made.

The full name goes ‘Brabus 750 Bodo Buschmann Edition’. As you can guess, the output of the stock 4.0-liter V8 is raised from its normal 585 PS (577 hp / 430 kW) to a cool 750 PS (740 hp / 552 kW). The peak torque goes up from 800 to 900 Nm (from 590 to 662 pound-feet). The top speed stays capped at 315 km/h (195 mph), but the sprint time from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) has dropped from 3.6 to just 3.3 seconds.

On the outside, the commemorative car wears an extensive carbon-fiber body kit alongside a set of three-spoke forged rims installed in 21-inch diameter at the front and 22-inch at the back. Their design echoes those installed on the 1996 Brabus 7.3S, which was also based on SL chassis.

Elsewhere, the car benefits from carbon-ceramic brakes and modified springs that lower its height by a further 25 mm (1 inch). The lower center of gravity combined with other suspension upgrades have resulted in easier cornering, the company says.

Since it’s a commemorative edition, you will not be able to specify your exterior or trim color: black is the only option for both. With posh leather upholstery all around and carbon inserts, however, chances are you won’t be disappointed either way. Oh, and the number 77 used throughout is a reference to the year 1977 when Brabus was founded.
