The 2018 Mercedes-Benz eSprinter is getting ready to transition into its second generation: the company has been testing it in freezing Arjeplog, Sweden, over the past several weeks.
The engineering crew was primarily interested in seeing how well the electric powertrain would perform at below-zero temperatures. The new van comes based on a new architecture called “Electric Versatility Platform” and offers a choice from three battery pack sizes. Customers will also be able to specify the body style they need: options include bare chassis with mounting points, cargo van and passenger bus.
Once the new eSprinter debuts on its home market, Mercedes will work on expanding the sales geography to Canada and the United States.
