Mercedes-Benz eSprinter goes RWD for next generation

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the second generation of its battery-powered eSprinter van. The exterior remains largely unchanged, but the tech is drastically new. The company eventually plans to offer the new eSprinter in 60 countries around the world.

In its latest design iteration, the van rides on a new Electric Versatility Platform featuring a synchronous electric motor mounted at the rear wheels. You can choose between 136 PS (134 hp / 100 kW) and 204 PS (201 hp / 150 kW) for the output, but the torque will be capped at 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) regardless of which version you buy.

As for the batteries, you can now choose from three sizes ranging from 56 to 113 kilowatt-hours. The biggest pack should give you around 500 km (310 miles) of urban driving range, the manufacturer claims – a massive improvement over the Gen.1’s 150 km (93 miles).

The latest MBUX infotainment system is included in all specs and can plot routes based on the remaining battery charge, among other things.
