MG Roadster EV shows up on first teasers

MG has shared the first images of its upcoming all-electric sports car that AutoHome claims is a droptop with unusual doors based on the Cyberster Concept (see video). The production car hasn’t been announced yet, but it shapes up to be a 3-second sprinter.

Judging by the photos thus far revealed, the car comes with a removable hard top you can stow away in the trunk. The original concept lacked any kind of roof altogether, essentially being a speedster with MG’s signature twin humps behind the seats.

Another major difference from the prototype can be seen in the headlights. Rather than complex patterns made from LED strips, the car shown here sports traditional unitized headlights. In fact, it looks much simpler than the concept overall.

Back when it debuted, the Cyberster had a 0-100 km/h (0-60 mph) sprint time of three seconds and up to 800 km (497 miles) of battery range. AutoHome.cn believes the final production vehicle will come close to these specifications. It is also worth noting that MG resorted to crowdfunding to develop the Roadster EV, succeeding in taking 5,000 pre-orders within just ten days.
