Customers in England can already purchase the China-made compact sedan named MG 5, which is essentially a rebadged Roewe Ei5. Today, however, a model by the same name has been announced for China – and it looks like a very different vehicle.
According to Shao Zinfeng, the new MG 5 reflects the company’s new design philosophy and sports a shark-nose radiator grille along with a low hood line. To us, it looks precariously close to the latest Honda Accord.
The top trim boasts LED-based lighting all around and 17-inch alloy wheels. Inside, the center console is conveniently tilted towards the driver, the steering wheel is a bit flattened, and the seats sport enhanced lumbal support.
The model comes with a choice between a 120-hp / 90-kW naturally aspirated engine (CVT only) and a turbocharged unit rated at 172 hp / 129 kW (DCT only). Both keep the drive fixed on the front axle.
Equipment highlights include a digital dash, a panoramic sunroof, and a multimedia system with sat-nav and smartphone support.
The official premiere will be held on November 8, 2020.
