MG5 Electric wagon to go on sale in Europe in March

MG, a once British carmaker currently owned by SAIC Group China, has revealed some details about the impending launch of the MG5 Electric estate in Europe.

The compact family car debuted nearly a year ago and had been set to reach the market in October 2021, but was postponed to March 2022.

From the technical point of view, it is essentially the all-electric 2021 Roewe Ei5 with a different badge. The company markets it as the only fully electric estate car in Europe, pointing out that Stellantis will not be releasing any competitors until 2023.

Customers can choose from two powertrain variants, but both offer a single front-mounted electric motor. The first version is called Standard Range and makes 177 PS (175 hp / 130 kW) along with 280 Nm (207 lb-ft) of torque. Its battery holds up to 50.3 kWh of power, translating into 320 km (199 miles) of WLTP range.

Opt for Long Range, and the performance takes a hit to 156 PS (145 hp / 115 kW), but the battery grows to 61.1 kWh. As a result, you can cover up to 400 km (248 miles) on a charge, WLTP-rated. Both versions need 8.3 seconds to launch to 100 km/h (62 mph) and both max out at 185 km/h (115 mph).

The base trim level is called Comfort and comes with the MG Pilot assist package including adaptive cruise control, lane control, blind spot monitoring etc. Available equipment also includes an AC, a reversing camera, LED headlights and heated seats.
