MG’s most expensive soft-roader teased ahead of premiere

Several images of the latest and so far the most advanced crossover vehicle by MGhave recently appeared in the online database of the Chinese Ministry of Industry and IT.

The shots show a production-ready vehicle based on the X-Motion Concept introduced only two months ago.

MG is a Chinese car manufacturer and part of the SAIC Group. Its representatives remain silent so far on what the vehicle will be called once it reaches the market. The photos aren’t any help, either: the badge on one of those reads “HX”, while on the other it clearly says “HS”. Maybe the company is going to stick with the HS, since it already has a few SUVs ending in –S in its lineup (ZS, GS).

According to the Chinese media, the soft-roader will be based on the Roewe RX5. It is going to be 4,574 mm (15 ft.) long with a 2,720 mm (8.9 ft.) wheelbase, 1,876 mm (6.15 ft.) wide and 1,664 (5.5 ft.) mm tall.

The Chinese version of the alleged MG GS will ship with engines 1.5 and 2.0 liters large, rated between 169 and 231 hp (126 – 172 kW). Transmission options haven’t been announced yet, but six-speed manual and seven-speed DCT looks to be the most realistic case. An all-electric variant is also possible.

The car should celebrate its official premiere in a few days. Another new model, a coupe inspired by the E-Motion Concept, may also be revealed until the end of the year.
