Silverstone Auctions is holding an auction for a rare street-legal, mid-engine hatchback called the MG Metro 6R4. With only 11 kilometers (~7 miles) on its odometer, Austin Rover Group designed it for Group B rally car homologation purposes.
This particular example is number 189 in a batch of 200 cars. Powered by a 3.0-liter V6 engine partnered to a five-speed manual gearbox and an AWD system, it comes rated at 416 hp / 310 kW in the rally car version, and 253 hp / 189 kW in the mass-production version.
Thirty-three years ago, Austin Rover Group Ltd. sold this MG Metro 6R4 to an owner who did not drive it at all. In fact, the car still retains the protective wax coating it shipped with. Its latest owner bought it in 2002 and has only driven 3 kilometers (1.8 miles) since then.
The asking price is not available, but a similarly-specced car with fewer than 300 km (185 miles) under its belt went for £200,000 in 2018.
