MG presents a rally-style electric car

MG, a formerly British car brand now owned by SAIC Group China, has brought a concept car called EX4 to Goodwood. AutoHome.cn is reporting that the model is based on the all-electric MG4 Xpower hatchback, but aims to look like the Metro 6R4 designed by MG in the mid-80s as a Groupe B rally car.

An impressively elaborate body kit does a convincing job turning the EX4 into a rally car lookalike. There is a giant front splitter, side sill and arch extensions, and a massive rear wing. The wheels are covered with aero discs to reduce drag.

In its standard guise, the classic MG4 Xpower has two electric motors and 435 PS (429 hp / 320 kW) at its disposal, making it the most powerful MG vehicle on record. It needs 3.8 seconds to sprint from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) and tops out at 200 km/h (124 mph).

In turn, the Metro 6R4 was a mid-engined three-door hatchback with a 3.0-liter V6 under the hood tuned to deliver up to 410 PS (404 hp / 302 kW) to all four wheels through a manual transmission. It debuted in 1985 and won bronze at one of the WRC stages that year.
