MGB GT restomod wins Hot Wheels Legends Tour contest

A restored and modified 44-year-old MGB GT sports car won the top prize of the Hot Wheels Legends Tour competition in Great Britain.

Michael Wallhead used all kinds of spare parts – most notably those salvaged from the scrap yard – to piece the car together. He nabbed the engine from a Jaguar, took the driveshaft from a Range Rover, borrowed Nissan Silvia S14 brakes and sourced Reliant Scimitar suspension for the project. Despite all units and components being in well-used condition, the result was an impressive sports car sprinting 0-97 km/h (0-60 mph) in 4.2 seconds.

The interior is just as wacky with its glove compartment made of number plates and seats trimmed with jeans fabric – you guessed it, the one recycled from actual jeans.

The MGB GT is currently heading to the international final stage of the competition, where it will represent the UK. The winning car will be released as a 1:64 Hot Wheels replica.
