The MG Pilot gets a plug-in hybrid version

When China-based automaker MG revealed its Pilot mini-SUV in September, we couldn’t help but notice that the car was little different from the MG HS. Both models shared the same body profile and interior design, with the front clip, exhaust tips and brake lights being the only notable differences. As it turns out now, however, the Pilot is a PHEV.

The electrified variant of the compact car comes painted light blue and costs 190,000 Yuan, a sizeable premium over the 159,800 Yuan you pay for the maxed-out gasoline version.

The new MG Pilot PHEV will see its official reveal at the Guangzhou motor show starting on Sunday, November 22, 2020. No technical specs exist so far, but sources are reporting the powertrain will consist of a 1.5-liter turbocharged three-pot and an electric motor. It will allegedly produce over 290 PS (286 hp / 213 kW) and have 75 km (46 miles) of all-electric range.
