MG launches a car subscription service in India

MG Motor India, Orix and Zoomcar have joined efforts to launch MG Subscribe, a car-by-subscription service for India that enables customers to rent a China-made MG ZS EV for 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5 or 3 years. Monthly payments are as low as 0.5 Rs Lakh with the longest 3-year plan.

The all-electric crossover SUV looks nearly identical to its gasoline counterpart and boasts five stars out of five in the Euro NCAP Rating. Its single electric motor produces 143 PS (141 hp / 105 kW) and 353 Nm (260 lb-ft) of torque, while a 44.5-kWh battery grants it up to 340 kilometers (211 miles) of range. Customers in India may buy it since last year, priced from 20.88 Rs Lakh for the Excite trim level and 23.58 Rs Lakh for the Exclusive version.

The Hyundai Kona Electric (23.75 – 23.95 Rs Lakh) is the only real competitor currently found on the market, but the Hyundai Mobility rental program is not available in India. The domestically produced Tata Nexon EV starts from 13.99 Rs Lakh, and is available via an EV Subscription service (1 or 3 years) for 0.295 Rs Lakh per month.

Aside from the ZS EV, which is known in China as the EZS, the automaker offers the gas-powered Hector model on a subscription basis. The offer currently only encompasses four cities – Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai and Poona – but will eventually spread nationwide, the companies report.
