Military truck converted into a motorhome can be yours in the USA

This Stewart & Stevenson M1087 FMTV started its life as an army off-roader, but numerous upgrades turned it into a capable home on wheels. The bidding has so far hit $45,500 with the auction set to end on March 25, 2022.

The current owner of the vehicle bought the 1997MY truck in 2018 and had it converted and legalized in Washington State. He chose to keep the standard passenger compartment with extendable sides as is and rework its furnishings instead.

The inner space is 21 square meters (226 square feet) large with the ceiling never under six feet (1,830 mm) tall. Amenities on board include a roomy kitchen, a shower cabin, assorted boxes and drawers, a WC, and a bed measuring roughly 6x7 feet large (1.8x2.0 meters). A special lifting mechanism is provided to lift the unused bed to the ceiling when extra space is needed.

Further additions included a 225l (60-gallon) cold and a 75l (20-gallon) hot water tanks, a fridge with a freezer, a split system, a 55-inch TV set, LED lighting all around, a router, and numerous USB ports and 12V power sockets all around.

On the outside, the motorhome has a reversing camera, LED headlights, and five solar panels mounted on the roof. A 6.6-liter Caterpillar V8 turbo diesel works in tandem with an Allison seven-speed automatic to drive the wheels with 290 PS (286 hp / 213 kW) and 705 Nm (520 lb-ft) of torque.

The heavy truck rides on three axles and six wheels and benefits from automatic tire pressure control. Its approach angle is as impressive as 40 degrees, and the towing capacity is no less remarkable at 20,000 pounds (9.5 metric tons).

A look at the odometer reveals around 36,000 miles (58,000 km) of use.
