BMW has officially greenlit the Rocketman, a 3.4-meter (11.1-ft.) long, three-door, all-electric hatchback that will enjoy international premiere in 2022 under the MINI banner.
The original MINI Rocketman Concept emerged as long ago as 2012. Back then, MINI had hoped to strike an agreement with PSA Groupe to produce it, but the negotiations failed, and the project was put on hold. Today, BMW announced that China-based manufacturer Great Wall agreed to revive the project.
As such, the Rocketman might end up based on Chinese platform and tech. Among other things, it might inherit the 48-hp (36-kW) electric motor and the 33 kWh battery from the Ora R1. Then again, chances are good that the powertrain will get a number of improvements before the release.
