Next Mini CUV to use the same chasses as the BMW i3

So far, the Mini Cooper EV is the only battery-powered vehicle the British marque has on its lineup (see the gallery and the video for details). Later on, however, Mini will be launching an electric crossover SUV based on the same principal tech as the next BMW i3.

Rumor has it that the newcomer goes by the name “Paceman” and will enter production at the Mini–Great Wall Motors joint factory in China. China-based battery vendor SVolt will allegedly provide traction batteries.

The Paceman EV will reportedly be comparable to the BMW X1 in terms of size and come based on a brand-new chassis that will later be used by the successor to the BMW i3. An ICE-powered counterpart should also be in the works.

It is still too soon to talk about availability dates, considering that the Chinese factory mentioned above is still under construction and should be complete in 2022.
