The John Cooper Works subdivision of MINI has recently showcased its newest rally car. The hardcore combatant goes by the name of Buggy, despite paneled body. Its one big distinguishing feature is the rear drive, since until now the British manufacturer had only entered the competition with four-wheel-drive cars.
Makers of the MINI John Cooper Works Buggy endowed it with a potent 3.9L BMW V6 Twinpower Turbo diesel inline. The engine is easily capable of 335 hp and 800 Nm torque. Its framework is made of steel pipe while the body employs Kevlar and carbon.
Rear-wheel-drive cars are allowed to participate in the 9,000-kilometer long rally across South America just as long as their wheels and road clearance are large enough. Looking at the MINI John Cooper Works Buggy, both seem to be in order.
It should be reminded that the last time MINI won the Rally Dakar was in 2015. Looks like it’s time for the big comeback!
