The year 2018 marks a milestone in the history of MINI, a British cart maker and part of the BMW Group. Since January 1, all MINI cars will ship with a dual-disc clutch transmission.
To that end, the company will employ the old and proven 7-speed DCT box by Steptronic, which comes with some modern front-driven BMW cars. The dual-disc unit may work in sync with satellite-based navigation systems and comes with the Start/Stop feature which greatly improves fuel consumption.
All three- and five-door MINIs, as well as the new MINI convertible, will be available with DCT starting next year. All that remains for us is to wait and see in what ways such a major design change impacts driving experience.
