New MINI Aceman images leak ahead of launch

The compact-sized SUV MINI Aceman will arrive in China with two electric motors and two battery sizes to choose from, reports AutoHome quoting the data recently entered by the manufacturer into the local Ministry of Industry database.

In the video here, MINI previews the Aceman in full camouflage. The images from the patent application reveal the same car in its full glory. As you can see, it gets the company’s latest octagonal faux grille design, traditional headlights and a broad-shouldered silhouette with pronounced Countryman-style arches. The automaker promises to make various decals and wheels available for the model so that every Aceman looks unique.

On the outside, the car is 4,076 mm (159.2 inches) long, 1,754 mm (68.5 in) wide and 1,515 mm (59.2 in) tall. As such, it is nearly 400 mm (15.6 inches) shorter than the Countryman and only barely larger than the MINI Cooper hatchback. Despite this, the company advertises it as a middle ground between the Cooper and the Countryman.

Customers in China will be getting two main powertrain options. The entry-level one mates a 184-PS (181-hp / 136-kW) electric motor with a 40-kWh battery pack for 300 km (186 miles) of range. The range-topping MINI Aceman S will get a 218-PS (215-hp / 170-kW) motor and a bigger 54.2-kWh battery rated for 400 km (248 miles). It will also sport a distinct appearance compared to the base spec.

From the technical standpoint, the new Aceman S for China sounds identical to the MINI Cooper for Europe that was introduced last fall. As such, we suspect that when the Aceman reaches the Old Continent, it will ship with the same motor/battery options there as the Cooper.

We should learn more about the SUV at the Auto China show set to be held in Beijing in late April.
