Mini rethinks moving Aceman/Cooper EV production to Oxford

BMW and its subordinate Mini brand had planned on moving all assembly of the electric Cooper and Aceman vehicles to Oxford, UK, but these plans are officially in the past now.

The Bavarian automaker has waived a $76 million state grant from the UK government that was supposed to incentivize it to open a production line in Great Britain.

As appealing as receiving a multi-million grant sounds, the company reckoned that there were simply too many unknowns in the future of the electric car industry to make such commitments.

As of right now, the latest Mini Cooper and Aceman are being produced solely in China with the assistance of the local Great Wall Motor Company Ltd.
