Gas-powered MINI JCW shows up for the first time

MINI has shared photos of a sporty John Cooper Works hatch scheduled for launch this summer. It’s still wrapped, but the company will be sending two examples to the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring endurance race on June 1–2, 2024.

Let’s have a look at the prototype in the meantime. It has a red and white camouflage wrap on that’s reminiscent of the liveries worn by company’s classic sports cars. The starting number 37 is not coincidental, either – it pays homage to the Mini that won the Monte Carlo Rally six decades ago. Also, if you look closer, you will see the individual body kit parts.

Note “Bulldog Racing” on the windshield, too. It’s the name of the team that will be driving the new Mini JCWs in the upcoming 24-hour marathon. They will compete in two different categories – one for slightly tuned vehicles and the other one for heavily modified ones. It remains to be seen what kind of tech the Mini Cooper that will go on sale this summer ends up with.

All we know is that the first version of the car to debut will be running on gas. In all likelihood, it will be automatic with no option for manual. The first deliveries will be made in the fall. It looks like there is an all-electric JCW somewhere down the line, but it remains to be announced.
