Mini has expanded the new Cooper lineup with a spacious five-door hatchback variant. It features a longer body and comes with two exterior designs to choose between, as well as two powertrains.
The car is 4,036 mm long, 1,744 mm wide and 1,464 mm tall (157.7 x 68.1 x 57.2 inches). As such, it is 172 mm (6.7 inches) longer than its three-door counterpart with 72 mm (2.8 inches) of added wheelbase. The trunk is fairly small at 275 liters (9.7 cubic feet), but goes up to 925 l (32.6 cu.ft.) with the seats folded.
Other than that, the five-door Cooper is identical design-wise to its three-door sibling. Buyers can choose from 11 finish options and wheels sized from 16 to 18 inches in diameter. Wider 17-inch and 18-inch rims are optional, as is adaptive suspension. The top spec additionally benefits from a sports pack making it look like a JCW hot hatch.
The entry-level Cooper C model makes do with a 1.5-liter three-cylinder turbo engine rated at 156 PS (154 hp / 115 kW) and 230 Nm (170 lb-ft). It needs full eight seconds to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) and doesn’t go any faster than 225 km/h (140 mph).
The more expensive Cooper S benefits from a 2.0-liter four-pot turbo capable of 204 PS (201 hp / 150 kW) and 300 Nm (221 lb-ft). This one is somewhat faster on the uptake (6.8 seconds) and has a higher top speed of 242 km/h (150 mph).
