MINI refreshes its gas-powered JCW lineup

The new MINI John Cooper Works hatchback and convertible are both powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine mated to a dual-clutch transmission – no more manual on the menu. Both yield to their electric counterparts in power output and acceleration.

Specifically, the new JCW range has 231 PS (228 hp / 170 kW) and 380 Nm (280 lb-ft) of torque to work with. It’s the same amount of power as the previous generation, but an extra 30 Newton-meters (22 pound-feet) of torque. To put things into perspective, the EV version commands 258 PS (254 hp / 190 kW) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft).

Equipped like this, the JCW hatchback reaches 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.1 seconds and tops out at 250 km/h (155 mph). Its convertible cousin is understandably slower with a 6.4-second sprint and a 245 km/h (149 mph) top speed. The JCW Electric sprints 0.2 seconds faster than this, but cannot go beyond 200 km/h (124 mph).

You can tell the new JCW from its predecessor by an aggressive body kit, a larger radiator grille, red accents all around, new wheels sized up to 18 inches, and a single tailpipe sitting in the middle of the rear bumper. The interior gets new trim options alongside an updated steering wheel and revised seats. MINI also mentions some trim-exclusive suspension tweaks.
